Indo Pacific Fish Conference
Indo Pacific Fish Conference
10/02/2017 to 10/06/2017

The call for sessions at Tahiti 2017 IPFC (2-6 October 2017) is at present open (https://ipfc10.criobe.pf/program/call-for-sessions/). You have until 30th November 2016 to suggest a session. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need more details…

The scientific planning committee of IPFC invites researchers, resource managers and students to submit proposals for sessions at the 2017 IPFC. Themes will address systematics, evolution, phylogeny, ecology, behavior, conservation and fisheries in freshwater, coral reef/ pelagic/ deep fishes. The relationship between “Human (culture, anthropology, sociology) and Fish” will be also a target topic of this 10th IPFC.  Multidisciplinary/cross-disciplinary, solution-oriented sessions are particularly encouraged in which a range of participants can interact with a goal of producing concrete outputs leading to positive coral reef outcomes. The 10th IPFC will provide a platform for scientists and stakeholders from around the Indo-Pacific and beyond to gather, to share knowledge, to build new collaborations and to find new and innovative ways of managing and ensuring the long-term sustainability of these globally important fish stocks.

Island Arks Symposium V
Island Arks Symposium V
10/23/2017 to 10/27/2017

The Island Arks Symposium is a long standing, high level meeting for islanders, island managers, conservation ecologists and island eco-tourism operators. The Symposium provides an invaluable forum for knowledge sharing, and as a platform for developing collaborations and partnerships amongst island people. Now in its 5th iteration, Island Arks V promises to be a wonderful opportunity for those involved in, or with an interest in island management within the Pacific region and elsewhere.

**Timelines:**

We are now seeking submission of abstracts from individuals and organisations wishing to present at the Symposium. Abstracts can be sent to the Organising Committee via **islandarks@wildmob.org**

**Abstracts:**

Abstracts should be no longer than 300 words and submitted in Microsoft Word format. A full title should be supplied along with the names and affiliations of all authors. Please ensure the presenting author is identified.

- January 2017 – Call for Abstracts
- February 2017 – Registrations Open
- May 2017 – Close of Call for Abstracts
- June 2017 – Notification to successful presenters
- July 2017 – Publication of Final Program

**Sessions & Topics**

We will accept abstracts for presentations covering any topic related to the sustainable use, conservation and management of islands. A number of thematic sessions are under development and potential presenters submitting abstracts within these themes should first contact the session convenor as below:

Myrtaceae plant health in the Pacific region.

Myrtle rust (and other fungal pathogens affecting this family) in the Pacific region. This session will bring researchers together to discuss in situ and ex situ conservation strategies for this family, in the face of this major threat to plant health.

Convenor: Ruth E. Bone PhD FLS International Projects Officer (Pacific). Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Millennium Seed Bank. email **R.Bone@kew.org**

What, Where, and When: Approaches to identifying priorities for island management.

Knowing how to manage invasive species and other threats to island biodiversity is not enough. Our success in managing for the persistence of native species and ecosystems on islands will depend strongly on how effectively we set priorities for action with inevitable constraints on funding. This session will bring together people from diverse geographies and backgrounds who are wrestling with the problems of prioritisation to share perspectives and experiences.

Convenor: Bob Pressey FAA. Distinguished Professor. Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies. James Cook University. email **bob.pressey@jcu.edu.au**

Incorporating community, cultural and commercial needs and desires into conservation management interventions

Social conservationists contend that improved outcomes for biodiversity conservation requires more holistic models than those used in the past. This session will bring together practitioners who are using new models to engage with host communities in conservation interventions.

Convenor: Derek Ball PhD BSc. Chief Executive Officer. Wildmob. email **derek@wildmob.org**

Reducing the impacts of catchment runoff on coastal marine ecosystems.

This session brings together a diverse group of planners, researchers and practitioners working towards development and implementation of water quality improvement plans designed to reduce the impact of downstream catchment runoff on coastal marine ecosystems.

Convenor: Derek Ball PhD BSc. Chief Executive Officer Wildmob. email **derek@wildmob.org**

**Venue:**

Island Arks V will be held at the [Anchorage Beach Resort](http://www.anchoragefiji.com) which is conveniently located just 15 minutes from Nadi International Airport, Fiji.

**Social Program:**

An engaging social program is under preparation as are field trip opportunities. Please check back here for updates.
