French Polynesia, birds
isaacr

French Polynesia is the third country in the world with the highest proportion of endangered birds. SOP Manu has been taking action for years to preserve these species, and is launching a new project that will last six years and will allow its efforts to continue.

Bird species in the Pacific in general, and in Polynesia in particular, are endangered. Fifty species have already disappeared. Of the 30 remaining endemic species, 20 are endangered, including ten critically endangered. Five of these species have fewer than 200 individuals, and they are the ones targeted by the actions of the SOP Manu association. These are the Fatu Hiva Monarch (19 individuals), the Gallic Dove (180 individuals), the Rapa Fruit Dove (140 individuals), the Tahiti Monarch (150 individuals) and the Rapa Shearwater (120 individuals). Hence the Stop Extinction project followed by Life Stop Extinction which was officially inaugurated this Tuesday afternoon.
