Eleven distinct ecosystems (anchialine pool, coastal, lowland dry, lowland mesic, lowland wet, montane mesic, montane wet, montane dry, subalpine, dry cliff, and wet cliff) on the main eight Hawaiian Islands and northwest Hawaiian Islands currently harbor or historically harbored one or more of the 49 species under consideration for listing as endangered under the U.S. Endangered Species Act.
