These plans and associated planning processes may be relevant to ocean planning efforts in the Pacific. The inclusion of indigenous/ First Nation interests in regional ocean planning will be very relevant to Pacific island states. Moreover, they should be relevant to "Whole Domain Management" concepts (land and sea/EEZ scale management). Pacific equivalents to the US Ocean Action Plan might include: The Framework for a Pacific Oceanscape (FPO), a Pacific version of multi-jurisdictional governance of regional ocean and island systems; MACBIO countries like Vanuatu and Solomon Islands are developing Ocean Policies for their whole EEZ; other countries like Palau and Cook Islands have EEZ-scale MPAs and sanctuaries. New Caledonia is developing a management plan for the Natural Park of the Coral Sea. Pitcairn Island is proposing an EEZ scale MPA also.
