The U.S. National Park Service celebrates its 100th anniversary today, August 25, 2016. Although Yellowstone National Park was established in 1872 and other parks and monuments before 1916, the agency only came into existence in 1916. The Hawaiʽi Volcanoes National Park was established in 1916. Other national parks have been established in American Samoa and elsewhere in the Pacific.
