On November 27, 2024, the Koror State Government Department of Conservation Law and Enforcement (KSG-DCLE) partnered with the Palau Pledge Dive Club to conduct a spawning dive monitoring as part of the Koror State’s Resilient Reef Initiative (RISL-RRI) Sustainable Fisheries Project. The dive took place from 5:30 am to 12:30pm, focusing on the monitoring and data collection on the Kemedukl (Bumphead Parrotfish), while providing a transformative educational experience for students.
The event was aimed at supporting sustainable fishing practices by gathering accurate data on fish spawning patterns, which is vital for ensuring the health and resilience of Palau’s marine ecosystem. The Kemedukl monitoring activity served as an opportunity to showcase the beautiful wonders of Palau’s underwater world to participating students. By diving into the Ngerumekaol Conservation waters, students developed a deeper appreciation for its critical role in supporting marine biodiversity and bolstering the tourism industry.
