International Reserves on the High Seas

Currently, so-called Marine Protected Areas are almost exclusively located in the territorial waters of coastal nations. But an increasing number of organizations and scientists are working on ways to create and protect marine reserves in international waters. Already, the UN has identified a handful of marine biodiversity hotspots that would be prime candidates to become protected World Heritage sites.
