Locals agree to lock up their land to protect wildlife, including koalas, endangered Richmond birdwing butterfly

4600 hectares of additional land protected in Queensland, meaning the total protected area is 8.26% of the state. Half a million dollars in grants will be provided to landowners to better manage private protected land. The Queensland Conservation Council says it's a step in the right direction but more needs to be done to reach a goal of 17% protected land.
