Ra’ui lifts for fishing contest on Mangaia

The island of Mangaia was blessed with a warm and sunny day for the start of its first official fishing competition.There were special categories for the mamas, papas and pepes, and excited kids took part in reef-fishing with their bamboo rods. They weighrf in their catches – mainly patuki.The mamas and children also collected buckets of seafood delicacies such as ariri and ungako, after the ra’ui in the area was lifted just for the weekend.
