The Government of Papua New Guinea, through the Conservation and Environment Protection Authority (CEPA), hosted an official ceremony to signing the project document for the implementation of a Global Environment Facility (GEF) initiative under its 8th funding replenishment cycle (GEF-8) yesterday, Wednesday 07th May 2025 at the CEPA office, Port Moresby.
Supported by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), one of the GEF Accredited Agencies in PNG, the GEF-8 project will focus on safeguarding globally significant, intact tropical rainforest landscapes in the Gulf and Western provinces of PNG. These areas are vital carbon sinks and biodiversity hotspots, playing a critical role in climate regulation and ecosystem stability.
