Melvira Kyarii Kazuma is from Palau and currently serves as the Protected Areas Network (PAN) Coordinator within the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and the Environment. In this role, she oversees the operations of the PAN Office and works closely with PAN member states to support the achievement of Palau’s conservation and sustainable development goals.
Ms. Kazuma earned her Associate Degree in Office Administration from Palau Community College (PCC) in 2015. Shortly after graduating, she joined the Bureau of Tourism as Administrative Officer, where she was responsible for a range of secretarial and financial tasks to ensure the smooth functioning of the office. Her collaboration with the Tri-Org and stakeholders in the tourism sector contributed significantly to her professional growth.
In April 2018, she transitioned to the PAN Office as Administrative Coordinator, where she provided administrative support with a particular focus on assisting Minister Sengebau. During her time with PAN, she obtained certification as an open water SCUBA diver, enabling her to conduct monitoring visits to marine protected areas that require diving. In addition to her PAN responsibilities, Ms. Kazuma manages the Minister’s daily schedule and other clerical duties. She is especially grateful for the opportunity her role has provided to engage with numerous visiting dignitaries and international partners.
