For more than 20 years, the Tree Kangaroo Conservation Programme (TKCP) has operated in Morobe's Huon Peninsula to establish and manage the country's first conservation area. The programme has evovled for a species-specific conservation initiative focused on the ecology and status of the endangered Matschie's tree kangaroo into a holistic programme that encompasses livelihoods, education, helath and community-based natural resource management in partnership with local landowners in the Yopno-Uruwa-Som (YUS) area.
