Representatives from across the Pacific gathered this week at the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFS) for the first-ever Regional Consultation on Environmental Rights, held at the invitation of the Government of Vanuatu. The meeting marks a step toward strengthening the legal and policy recognition of the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment across the Blue Pacific Continent.

Hosted by PIFS with support from United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), and the Pacific Community (SPC), the two-day consultation brought together government representatives from the Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Papua New Guinea, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu, along with regional organisations, civil society, and legal experts.
