Environmental protection and rehabilitation form one of the “strongest” parts of the Mineral Resources Bill 2025, the Minister for Mines, Energy and Rural Electrification Derrick Manuari told Parliament. Manuari was speaking in Parliament last week when presenting the Bill for debate at the Second Reading Stage. “Part 10 – Environmental Protection and Rehabilitation. Mr Speaker, this is one of the strongest parts of the Bill,” he said. Manuari said Sections 119-123 require all tenement holders to comply with the Environment Act and submit environmental impact assessments before approval whilst Sections 124–127 make rehabilitation of mining sites mandatory during and after operations.
