Fijian iguanas have been making a home at the San Diego Zoo for more than 50 years. The prince of Tonga gave the zoo six Fiji banded iguanas in 1965, and the first hatchling was born in 1981.

Scientists bring to life nearly 100 baby sharks through artificial insemination

Sixteen out of 31 oceanic shark species are now critically endangered or endangered, a study published in the journal Nature found earlier this year. The number of oceanic sharks and rays in the world has declined by 71% from 1970 to 2018,the researchers observed.

Captive breeding helps New Zealand’s threatened black stilts take flight

The black stilt or kakī is a critically endangered wading bird with fewer than 200 individuals living in the wild. The main threat to the kakī is introduced predators, such as stoats, ferrets, rats and cats, but the birds are also vulnerable to flooding in their habitat.
