Dave Butler was a quiet achiever who had an extraordinary love for natural history and the environment. After a battle with prostate cancer, Butler passed away at his home in Nelson on December 20 at the age of 67.

Mael Imirizaldu is a regional officer for Pacific and French-speaking countries for Conservation International’s Center for Oceans, where he helps countries and communities conserve the ocean that they depend on.

Created by a 26-year-old Australian, a new online community called Lonely Conservationists is bringing together young and struggling conservationists. Members post about their experiences, including unpaid jobs, financial woes, mental health issues, and, of course, loneliness.
