Cleared cultivation areas are now penetrating some of the most well preserved native forests of the Pacific region. The Micronesia Challenge (MC) is an agreement initiated in 2006 by the
region’s political jurisdictions to conserve both marine and terrestrial natural resources. To
assess the success of the terrestrial goals of the challenge, the Micronesia Conservation
Trust (MCT) coordinated the compilation of a list of terrestrial measures and utilized them
to summarize data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest

Protecting Kosrae's upland forest

This Feasibility Study was undertaken by the Pacific Invasives Initiative (PII). The study was undertaken to determine the feasibility of managing invasive plant species suspected of threatening an area of lowland native forest on Kosrae island, Federated States of Micronesia. A proposed protection area within the forest has high biodiversity, water supply and cultural values.
