This publication is a simplified summary version of the report ‘Ecosystem and Socio-economic Resilience Analysis and Mapping (ESRAM) for Central Province, Solomon Islands’. In 2024, several communities in Central Province took part in an assessment called Ecosystem and Socio-economic Resilience Analysis and Mapping. These communities were Soka (25th Nov), Gumu (26th Nov), Toa (27th Nov), Vuranimala (28th Nov), Haleta (29th Nov), Panueli (3rd Dec), Marulaon (5th Dec) and Karumulun (5th Dec). This report summarises the information gathered and the key findings from the assessment.

This report presents the Ecosystem and Socioeconomic Resilience Analysis and Mapping (ESRAM) prepared as part of Objective 4. ESRAM is a framework employed globally to evaluate and strengthen the resilience of both, natural ecosystems and the socioeconomic systems closely linked to them. ESRAM provides an integrated approach that considers both ecological and social dimensions, providing decision-makers with a systematic tool to analyse relationships between ecosystems and the communities they support.

Ecosystem and Socio-economic Resilience Analysis and Mapping (ESRAM) for Central Islands Province, Solomon Islands

The target area for the ESRAM assessment is the land- and seascape comprising Nggela Islands, Russell Islands and Savo Island. This is largely due to the very high biodiversity values of their terrestrial and marine areas. The marine areas are also critically important for tourism activities, while the terrestrial lands are subject to intense land use pressures, land degradation and the impacts of climate change.

A Review of the Status of Sea Turtles in the Pacific Ocean 2021

This status review is a compilation of the most recent literature and statistics on the status of sea turtles in the Pacific Ocean region, providing a clearer understanding of the risks to sea turtles and their habitats. It presents a summary of the relevant (published) literature and knowledge about sea turtle reproductive biology, movements, and connectivity, and presents these alongside relevant threats that, in combination, are pertinent to understanding the status of sea turtle populations in the Pacific Ocean.

Assessment of Target and Non-target Species catch rates in the Kikori Fish maw Fishery and Local Ecological Knowledge of locally Threatened Dolphin Species.

This report shares the findings of a study aimed at providing information to fisheries managers on the rate of by-catch and use of different species in the growing ‘fish maw” industry in Papua New Guinea’s Kikori Delta. The study was supported by SPREP, through the By-catch and Integrated Ecosystem Management (BIEM) Initiative of the Pacific-European Union Marine Partnership (PEUMP) Programme funded by the European Union and the Government of Sweden.
