Auckland Zoo is pleased to announce that the next round of the Auckland Zoo Conservation Fund's small grants programme will focus on projects from the South Pacific. 

Island Arks Symposium V will be held in Fiji during October 23-27th 2017.

The Island Arks Symposium is a long standing, high level meeting for islanders, island managers, conservation ecologists and island eco-tourism operators.

Researchers at Stanford University's Hopkins Marine Station investigated the role of expanded marine protected areas (MPAs) on grey reef sharks and found that the aquatic no-fishing zones were an effective tool for protecting this near-threatened species. Read more that the link below

This handbook provides practical guidance on the effective use of protected areas as tools to reduce the likelihood and impacts of disasters.

Unlike protected lands, marine protected areas can’t be staked with signposts – and without clear boundaries, mariners can easily drift into areas where they don’t belong. But there might be a technological fix for that dilemma. read full article at link below
