Despite considerable efforts these past four years, we are not on track to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. We must dramatically step up the pace of implementation as we enter a decisive decade for people and the planet. We must connect the dots across all that we do – as individuals, civic groups, corporations, municipalities and Member States of the United Nations – and truly embrace the principles of inclusion and sustainability. Science is our great ally in the efforts to achieve the Goals. The Global Sustainable Development Report 2019, prepared by an independent group of scientists, presents an objective assessment of where we are falling short and what needs to be done. The Report highlights central entry points to leverage interlinkages and accelerate progress across all 17 Sustainable Development Goals. This Report reminds us that the future is determined by what we do now and the window of opportunity is closing fast.
