The need to remove the crown of thorns starfish or taramea as soon as possible is crucial, says Kōrero o te 'Ōrau. The local non-government organisation is now calling on support through a Givealittle page, especially from those wishing to contribute from abroad.
As if they don't already face enough challenges from bleaching, many of the world's coral reefs are currently being eaten by the crown-of-thorns starfish.
Environment group Kōrero o te 'Ōrau is calling for the removal of the crown of thorns starfish from reefs around Rarotonga. It could be an early stage of an outbreak, says leader and biologist Dr Teina Rongo.
