This community monitoring guide is designed to cover the region of the Philippines, Papua New Guinea and Northern Australia and is intended for Government and Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) working closely with community members to map and monitor sea grass habitats.
This manual provides background information on monitoring and why it is needed. It has detailed information on different techniques for monitoring including equipment. Communities will need certain equipment or funding (e.g., measuring tapes, stakes, cameras) along with sufficient training to be able to carry out their own monitoring. The data sheets and species ID sheets are very useful, as are the guideline pictures for estimating percent cover of algae/seagrass.
