Mapping Multilateral Environmental Agreements to the Aichi Biodiversity Targets
Technical report:
The technical report provides an up-to-date compilation of guidance provided by the conventions’ decisions, programmes, plans and support tools, which have been mapped against the Aichi Biodiversity Targets. The report is to inform discussions aiming to identify opportunities of alignment, cooperation and collaboration among the conventions, and to support those involved in National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) development, revision and implementation by helping them to identify opportunities for addressing each Aichi Biodiversity Target in a manner that enables the objectives of the biodiversity-related conventions to be addressed coherently.
In addition to the technical report, two appendixes provides additional information of interest.
Appendix 1 ‘Matrix’ – containing the raw information from articles, resolutions, decisions, strategic plans, joint work plans, convention specific tools or guidelines, mapped against the Aichi Biodiversity Targets.
Appendix 2 ‘Checklist’ – an example of an intermediary step towards adapting the information contained in the matrix to help those revising and implementing NBSAPs to identify considerations and actions of relevance to addressing each Aichi Biodiversity Target, in a synergistic way, taking into consideration the objectives of the biodiversity-related conventions. This table captures some of the key phrases identified in Part A of the report related to implementing, and reporting on, actions that could help to achieve specific Aichi Biodiversity Targets. The phrases included are non-exhaustive examples.

Summary leaflet
The four page summary leaflet provides a summary of the technical report and aims to raise awareness of the existence of the report and its key findings and to inform discussions at UNEA-2, CBD SBI 1, CITES COP17, WHC Committee Meeting 40, CBD COP13 as well the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2016, which will be held on Hawai'i in September. This event will also be important because of the adoption of the Global Programme 2017-2020 including both Governments and Ngo's/indigenous peoples. It thereby helps to support the identification of areas of cooperation and collaboration among the biodiversity related conventions in order to enhance synergies and improving efficiency in the implementation of the respective conventions.
