Coral reefs in Guam and the rest of the Marianas archipelago are facing unprecedented damage because of warmer waters and increased carbon dioxide emissions. As of Sept. 13, Guam’s coral reefs were placed under warning alert levels, meaning sea surface temperatures exceeded 29 degrees Celsius and heat stress has begun accumulating.
