This report was commissioned by the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) to raise awareness and understanding of the tools available to evaluate Protected Area Management Effectiveness (PAME); to provide case studies from the region on PAME assessment; and to help inform decision-making when choosing tools and planning assessments. An extensive literature review was undertaken in early 2022, and complemented by online discussions with PA practitioners, including both government and non-government organisation (NGO) representatives, from nine Pacific island countries. The report takes into account ongoing activities to improve PAME in the region. SPREP would like to acknowledge and thank the lead author, Dr. Sue Wells and all those across the Pacific region and abroad who contributed to this study.
